Voices of Light with the Purchase Symphony Orchestra

Voices of Light is a stunning evening of music and film that merges the legendary silent film masterpiece The Passion of Joan of Arc, widely considered to be one of the greatest films ever made, with the Purchase Symphony Orchestra’s live performance of a ravishing score by award-winning composer Richard Einhorn.

The Film
Thought to have been destroyed in warehouse fires, a perfect copy of The Passion of Joan of Arc was discovered recently and lovingly restored. With its raw emotional power, its naturalistic acting, and an utterly contemporary visual style, The Passion of Joan of Arc looks like it was made only yesterday. It is a haunting, extraordinary film.

The Music
Praised as “lush,” “brilliantly effective” and “moving” by the New York Times, Washington Post and Chicago Sun Times, Voices of Light has attracted a huge audience on its own. The Sony Classical CD of Voices of Light featuring the famous medieval vocal ensemble Anonymous 4 is an international bestseller and has spent over 7 weeks on the Billboard charts.

The Purchase Symphony Orchestra
The Purchase Symphony Orchestra is composed of the dedicated and talented students of the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music and special guest artists. Students rehearse six hours a week as a large group and spend additional time in studio classes and sectionals. The Orchestra is proud to present the works of classical composers from the Age of Enlightenment to the present day.

The Purchase PAC’s programs are made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.

The Purchase PAC is proud to be a grantee of ArtsWestchester with funding made possible by Westchester County government with the support of County Executive Kenneth W. Jenkins and the Board of Legislators.
